General English Program 20
The General English programme from Hansa Language Centre has its students work on all the aspects of English study that you would expect from a course with a general approach: grammar, pronunciation, reading, writing, listening, and plenty of conversation practice. The school takes pride in being able to offer small class sizes, which has the benefit of promoting better communication between teachers and all students.
These classes take place at the Yonge Street campus, on a weekly commitment of 20 hours per week. All participants are assigned to a group that most closely represents their current English level, but can later be changed depending on your progress and other factors. New students can start on practically any Monday of the year, so you’ll be able to jump in whenever you want.

You will take 15 hours of carefully designed one-to-one lessons with your teacher in their home, which could be based on any topic that you are interested in. Three meals will be provided by your host family every day, which is often an excellent opportunity to sit down and chat, and learn about the Canadian culture in Toronto.
Toronto is known for its extremely cold winters, so be sure to pack a suitcase full of your warmest attire if you plan to stay here outside of the Summer months. This city is frequently named among the best cities in the world to live in as a student, which is one of the reasons that you will find a considerable international student population in Vancouver, as a result, there are plenty of entertainment and leisure options throughout the city to accommodate them.
All of HLI’s host locations have a Local Organiser agent in the area, who is there to ensure that everything goes smoothly between you and your host family. If there is ever any issue with your accommodation, you should contact this agent and they will help you resolve it immediately.

You’ll have 26 classes per week, lasting 40 minutes each - ideal for learning and practising a new concept without taking too long.
After enrolling, you will be asked to complete an online placement course, which is designed to help EF place you in a group that will challenge you but also not make you feel overwhelmed. Prospective students can start on almost any Monday of the year, for a minimum commitment of 2 weeks.
Four of your classes are called Special Interest Lessons, and they allow you to decide which subject and language points you would like to explore. This might come in handy for those who have a particularly important event coming up, such as a Cambridge exam or a job interview.
Activities are also organised by the school (such as the obligatory visit to Niagara Falls!), which are a great way to connect with your group more, and an opportunity to use your improving English skills in a real and a fun scenario.
